Almanac de Parede

The ‘Almanac de Parede‘ first published in 1903 by Joaquim Filipe Roque Correia at the Tipografia Progresso is the oldest wall calendar listing local information. It lists saints’ days, local feasts, zatras (Hindu festivals), public holidays, postal rates, phases of the moon, the summer and winter solstices, etc.

Today the fourth generation of the Correia family are keeping the Almanac de Parede alive, 1000 such calendars are printed annually and are distributed to certain stores across Goa. Besides, 125 copies are also sent to Daman due to the rich Portuguese influence there as well. It is the only annual publication in Portuguese language in Goa.
